Built on a Family Tradition of Heavy Equipment

BTH Construction is a family-owned excavation company based in Anchorage, Alaska. Owner and operator Brian Harten didn't just grow up around heavy equipment — he grew up around Hitachi equipment. His father's first hydraulic excavator was a Hitachi UH045 in the mid-1980s. Brian's first was a 1999 Hitachi EX160. When he founded BTH Construction, it felt right to carry on that tradition.

Today, BTH operates a comprehensive fleet of equipment of all sizes — with two Hitachi ZAXIS 160LC-6 excavators as the primary machines, plus a Kenworth dump truck and supporting equipment — handling everything from residential lot clearing and foundation grading to commercial site prep, septic system installation, and private road building throughout Anchorage and Southcentral Alaska.

BTH's work was recognized by Hitachi Construction Machinery in their Breakout magazine (Winter 2020), which featured Brian and the new ZAXIS 160LC-6 working on a large custom home site overlooking the Anchorage Coastal Trail and Cook Inlet.

Featured in Hitachi Breakout Magazine

BTH Construction was profiled in Hitachi Breakout magazine (Winter 2020) when Brian took delivery of a new ZAXIS 160LC-6.

"My father's first hydraulic excavator was a UH045 back in the mid-80s. My first hydraulic excavator was a 1999 Hitachi EX160. It felt right to carry on the Hitachi tradition, since both of those previous machines helped build successful businesses and moved a lot of dirt."
— Brian Harten, BTH Construction  |  Hitachi Breakout Magazine, Winter 2020

The article highlighted how the ZAXIS 160LC-6's performance allows BTH to do work that many brands would require a 200-210 size excavator to match — while still being compact enough to transport easily and fit onto tighter job sites. The machine was working on a large custom home site overlooking the Anchorage Coastal Trail and Cook Inlet at the time of the feature.

"In my mind, Hitachi has always been the best excavator out there. I've always said, if you were going to have only one excavator, it better be a Hitachi."
